Iocka is just able to do the same thing as anyone else could with the Scriptor Magicae modpack, using books, chalk, and words to cast spells. However chalk and books have limits to what they can cast, while his body is able to cast more it will have repercussions on his body.

Iocka comes from a world where magic was contained specifically in words, either written or spoken.

He just really likes magic he wants to learn as much as he possibly can about it from everyone, even if he can't use what he's learning.
